At EMC Psychology, we believe that understanding crisis support options ahead of time can make a powerful difference for yourself, a loved one, or someone in your community.

A mental health crisis is any situation where a person’s emotional or psychological distress becomes so intense that they may be at risk of harm to themselves or others. This can look different for everyone, but may include:
Suicidal thoughts or behaviours
Loss of touch with reality i.e. experiencing hallucinations or delusions
Intense depression, hopelessness, or emotional numbness
Extreme mood changes or emotional distress

What Happens After a Crisis?
Crisis services focus on safety and stabilisation. Once the immediate risk has passed, ongoing support is often needed to address underlying issues and reduce the chance of future crises.
This is where outpatient psychological care plays an important role. Therapy can help individuals:
Understand what contributed to the crisis
Learn coping and emotional regulation skills
At EMC Psychology we work alongside GPs, psychiatrists, and community services to provide continuity of care after a crisis.
